Will Heijmans

Vice-President, Senior Construction Manager

Will grew up in Kingston and commenced work in a local architectural firm immediately after high school where he quickly moved up the ranks to become one of the firm’s two Project Managers. Seven years at this firm was spent working with Heather Kembel and Todd Colbourne.

Will is responsible for administration of the construction stage of projects on behalf of our clients. He works closely with our Principal-In-Charge of the project, the Project Architect, the various other consultants that form part of the Project Team, the client representative, the general contractor, and the Authorities Having Jurisdiction to ensure that the construction work is completed to everyone’s satisfaction.

He attends all site meetings, regularly reviews the construction detailing and progress, prepares site reports, meeting reports, site instructions, CCO’s, CO’s and certificates of payment. He reviews shop drawings, proposed changes to the work, site conditions, and inspection & testing reports. He coordinates the review work of other consultants. He prepares deficiency lists with the Owner, performs Substantial Performance and Total Completion reviews, coordinates the handover documents (warranties, manuals) and conducts a final review with the Owner prior to completion of the warranty period.

In addition to his construction stage role, Will also reviews the technical details of the construction documents, writes the project specifications, and reviews the coordination of the disciplines. During the Tender Stage, Will represents the client to coordinate the bid process with the contractors and address any questions.

Will’s expertise in construction detailing and practices, his thorough paperwork and his common sense mediation skills have led to his being highly respected by both clients and contractors.

In his spare time over the years he has built numerous houses.
